Bahrain’s Shura Council unanimously approved a standalone AI Regulation Law, marking a significant step in AI regulation.
The law, proposed by a group led by Ali Al Shehabi, includes penalties like fines up to BD2,000 or three years in prison for violations and consists of 38 articles.
Extensive consultations were held with various ministries and organizations, emphasizing the collaborative effort in drafting comprehensive legislation.
The law addresses issues such as illegal AI use, privacy invasion, discrimination, and misuse of AI for criminal activities.
Implementation includes the formation of a special AI unit, issuance of governing executive by-laws within six months, and clear communication about consequences to avoid unintended punishments, especially for children.
