The rapid advancement of AI technologies necessitates that policymakers actively address and manage the transformative changes driven by AI.
To support this effort, the OECD established the Expert Group on AI Futures, aiming to anticipate emerging developments and their implications.
Drawing from the group’s insights, this report synthesizes research and expert opinions on the potential benefits, risks, and essential policy actions related to AI.
The report outlines ten key benefits of AI, including accelerated scientific breakthroughs, increased productivity, and improved foresight and decision-making capabilities.
It also highlights ten critical risks, such as the rise of more sophisticated cyberattacks, the spread of disinformation and manipulation threatening democratic processes, power concentration, failures in critical systems, and the deepening of inequality and poverty.
To address these issues, the report identifies ten policy priorities, including the establishment of clearer liability frameworks, the definition of AI “red lines,” investments in AI safety, and the implementation of robust risk management strategies.
Additionally, the report evaluates current public policy measures and governance initiatives, identifying gaps that require attention to ensure a balanced and responsible approach to AI adoption.
