Speaking at the UN Summit of the Future on Saturday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai called AI “the most transformative technology yet” and announced a global AI education and training fund.
Pichai outlined four major areas where AI can drive sustainable development:
Enabling people to access information in their native languages.
Speeding up scientific breakthroughs.
Providing early warnings and monitoring for climate disasters.
Boosting economic growth.
He acknowledged the risks of AI, such as deepfakes, but did not address AI’s potential impact on climate change.
Pichai emphasized the need to prevent a global “AI divide.”
Google is launching a $120 million Global AI Opportunity Fund to partner with local nonprofits and NGOs to make AI education and training accessible worldwide.
