FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 24, 2025, WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration has announced a sweeping national initiative to accelerate American leadership in artificial intelligence. The plan includes three executive orders and a comprehensive “AI Action Plan,” outlining the federal government’s new priorities in the development, deployment, and regulation of AI technologies.
The first executive order fast-tracks federal permitting processes for data centers, model training facilities, and AI-related infrastructure. This move is designed to remove environmental and zoning restrictions that, according to the administration, are slowing down U.S. competitiveness in AI development.
The second order establishes a federal preference for AI systems that are free of perceived ideological bias. It calls for the elimination of “woke AI” in government procurement and mandates neutrality standards for language models and decision-making tools used in federal systems.
The third order seeks to limit the influence of state-level AI regulations by linking federal funding to regulatory alignment. States implementing policies that contradict the national AI framework may face reduced access to federal research grants and infrastructure support. The AI Action Plan itself includes initiatives to encourage open-source model development, expand domestic chip production, and create AI education and workforce programs. It frames AI advancement as a matter of national security, economic growth, and technological sovereignty.
RegulatingAI, a nonprofit policy organization focused on AI safety and accountability, acknowledges the urgency of national coordination on AI but warns that speed should not come at the cost of fairness, privacy, or environmental sustainability. While the plan underscores American innovation, RegulatingAI urges federal leaders to preserve safeguards, support democratic oversight, and maintain space for state-level experimentation to ensure AI development serves the public interest.
