Ruslan Salakhutdinov is UPMC Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where he leads research in deep learning, probabilistic models, and large-scale optimization. He earned his PhD from the University of Toronto in 2009, and after postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he served on its faculty before joining CMU in 2016. Widely recognized for foundational work in generative deep models and structured learning, he helped popularize deep belief networks and advanced generative modeling — influencing computer vision, natural language processing, and statistical learning. His contributions continue to shape both theoretical understanding and practical applications of AI.
