Mike Hilgers is the 33rd Attorney General of Nebraska, having taken office on January 5, 2023. Before that, he built a successful legal career β founding Hilgers Graben, a litigation firm that grew from his basement into a nationwide practice with over 100 professionals. He also served in the Nebraska Legislature (2017β2023), culminating as Speaker from 2021β2023.
As Attorney General, Hilgers brings expertise in complex civil and criminal litigation, constitutional law, and regulatory matters. Notably, he has emerged as a leading voice on AI policy: in 2023, he joined a bipartisan coalition of 54 state attorneys general urging Congress to address AI-enabled child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Under his leadership, Nebraska passed LB 383, landmark legislation criminalizing AI-generated CSAM β closing a critical legal gap for the digital age.
Hilgersβ work reflects a commitment to public safety, constitutional integrity, and protecting vulnerable populations against emerging technological threats.
