JoAnn Stonier is the Fellow of Data & AI at Mastercard, where she leads the firm’s strategic thinking on data governance, AI, privacy, and external engagement with regulators, academia, and policymakers. Previously, she served as Mastercard’s first Chief Data Officer and before that as Chief Information Governance & Privacy Officer — roles in which she established enterprise-wide data strategy and stewardship of global data assets.
Stonier is widely recognized for her expertise in data ethics, inclusive datasets, bias mitigation, and responsible AI governance. Under her leadership, Mastercard has developed robust frameworks to balance innovation with accountability — improving fraud detection through AI while ensuring privacy, fairness, and data integrity.
