Jay Obernolte is a U.S. Representative from California, serving in Congress since January 3, 2021. A trained engineer with a B.S. from the California Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of California, Los Angeles, he brings rare STEM and AI knowledge to Congress. Before Congress, he founded a video game studio, FarSight Studios, served on local government, was mayor of Big Bear Lake, California, and then represented California’s 33rd District in the State Assembly (2014–2020).

In Congress, Obernolte sits on the Committees for Natural Resources, Budget, and Science, Space & Technology, where he champions tech policy, digital privacy, responsible AI infrastructure, public-lands protection, and fiscal restraint. As one of the few lawmakers with formal AI training, he has introduced legislation to advance U.S. leadership in AI infrastructure, signalling his commitment to integrating technical expertise with policymaking.
