Brando Benifei is a long-serving Member of the European Parliament (since 2014), representing Italy’s Northwest under the center-left Partito Democratico (PD). As of 2025, he serves as Coordinator in the Parliament’s Committee on International Trade and chairs the Parliament’s EU-US delegation.
Benifei rose to prominence as co-rapporteur—with a colleague—of the Artificial Intelligence Act, the EU’s landmark AI regulation. In 2024, he was awarded “MEP of the Mandate” for this work. His expertise spans digital policy, consumer protection, social justice, and the rights of vulnerable groups (youth, people with disabilities, and migrants).
Throughout his parliamentary career, Benifei has championed inclusive employment, social integration, youth opportunities, and equitable digital transformation—striving to anchor AI development in human rights, democracy, and trust.
