Axel Voss is a German lawyer-politician and long-serving Member of the European Parliament (MEP), first elected in 2009 and belonging to the European Peopleās Party (EPP).
Trained in European and international law, Voss serves as coordinator/spokesperson for the EPP group in the Parliamentās Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) and is a substitute member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).
Vossās expertise lies in digital-law, data protection, copyright, and AI regulation. He has been rapporteur or shadow rapporteur for major EU legislation, including the 2019 copyright directive, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and key AI-related files such as the civil liability regime for AI and the overarching AI regulatory framework.
On AI, Voss has helped steer the Parliamentās effort to define liability and regulation for AI systems ā advocating for mechanisms to ensure accountability when AI causes harm. His work aims to balance digital innovation with legal protections for privacy, intellectual property, and citizensā rights across the EU.
