Antonio Krüger is the CEO and Scientific Director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), as well as the head of its “Cognitive Assistants” research department. Since 2009 he has also served as Professor of Computer Science at Saarland University, leading the Ubiquitous Media Technology Lab.
Krüger’s technical expertise spans human-machine interaction, intelligent user interfaces, user modeling, cognitive sciences, ubiquitous computing, and multimodal AI systems. Under his leadership, DFKI—Germany’s largest applied AI research institute — has advanced AI research and deployment across domains including healthcare, retail, smart energy, IoT, automotive, and Industry 4.0.
He has authored hundreds of scientific papers, helped found the spin-off company Eyeled GmbH (focused on mobile and ubiquitous information systems), and played a key role in shaping Europe’s AI research infrastructure. Krüger promotes human-centric, responsible AI that bridges basic research with real-world applications — advancing both academic innovation and socially relevant technology.
